The municipality of Eindhoven issued a tender to develop the area in front of the central trainstation in Eindhoven. Amvest was one of the parties to develop a plan for the area, in close collaboration with Powerhouse Company and Zones (Zones Urbaines Sensibles). LightHouse was asked to support the plan development with insights from the roadmaps, e.g. on
water and green,
energy in the built environment,
mobility,
urban lighting and
healthy urbanisation.
For this purpose, the contents of the roadmaps were translated into posters with options for the application of green, water and intelligent systems in the buildings, as well as the public space. The posters were discussed with the architects and designers to inspire innovative solutions that would support the realisation of the ambitions of the roadmaps of the city.
Also, a discussion was held on how the area can be turned into a living lab, that not only applies innovative technologies during the realization, but will also involve residents and stakeholders in co-creative processes during its extended use. Technology is considered an enabler, that serves people in their achievement of a high quality of life.
The consortium won the tender with a design with three eye-catching residential towers, lots of green, meeting and debating facilities, tech-workshops for youngsters, exposition spaces, a hotel and shops that fit the image of tech and design. The expectation is that the realisation will start in 2019 and will be ready in 2022.
